Kanye West is wearing leather jackets with spikes in them, and wearing jeans with metal bands names on them…
can’t wait for every ghetto swag hoodrat to start dressing like metal heads.
Really can’t wait….All the kids who thought people like me were weird for wearing leather jackets or all black with metal band names mocked us.
I’ve been rocking the leather pants and metal band logo for as long as I can remember. Does this mean I’m a hipster and had “swag” before Kanye?
Its not the matter that he’s black. The issue is that he is a mainstream pop/hip-hop person so because of what he wears is “swag” to the mainstream sensation they’re all gonna wear these things which at one point which I was insulted for wearing all the time. So my problem is that I’m gonna see people who mocked me for wearing this attire are now wearing it cause its “hip”.
lmao look at this fucking gigantic NERD
keep crying up you goddamn scrub
Lol this person is mad because people take satanic imagery in rap way more seriously than they do satanic imagery in rock nowadays
“Its not the matter that he’s black.” “can’t wait for every ghetto swag hoodrat”
i wonder what would happen if you told this nerd that POCs kind of basically invented punk first
ps of course leather and studs are fucking “hip” and they have been if you’ve managed to avoid even walking past a clothing store in the past 5 years
No, you know what? I get it. He’s kind of right. He expressed his opinion in a stupid, pretty overtly racist way, but there’s one part of it that he’s correct about, and that’s the taking of something valuable by people who don’t know what to do with it. And I don’t mean black people (“ghetto swag hoodrats,” seriously?), I mean the fauxhemians.
Obviously people can wear whatever they want, and yeah, it’s definitely been trendy for fashionistas to co-opt metal and punk subculture for a while now, but oh my word is it obnoxious to traipse through Williamsburg and see some hip-with-it dingaling rocking a too-small Iron Maiden shirt or a Pantera trucker cap. Maybe somehow Eddie really jives with these guys’ personal sense of aesthetics, but I bet you anything the rationale behind it is more “oh here’s this lame thing, but it looks cool on me.”
A lot of the people in this thread, I can sense, are comparing this to the whole “fake geek girl” deal. It’s not really analogous. Nobody really thinks superheroes are lame anymore, so there’s less of a chance of someone wearing like, a Hulk t-shirt and not actually liking the Hulk to at least some degree. Lots and lots and lots of people still think metal is for angry losers and as such, when you “take” that away, it stings more. It’s cool now because you decided it’s cool now? Fuck that. If it was cool when Priest was rocking the leather and studs it’s always been cool. But not everyone-in fact, mostly nobody-is going to see it that way.
