I picked this up for five bucks at Half Price Books. The story can be hard to get through sometimes-there’s a lot of exposition and bombastic dialogue as is the wont of most comics before the ’90s(but particularly the Silver Age), even though it’s still fun-but the art just makes everything from that era and most things after it look like fucking crap by comparison. It’s just so damn lush and expressive and the technology and alien creatures are wildly sophisticated and detailed without being overbearing: I would almost describe the art in this as sort of like Alex Ross by way of Herge with just a pinch of Rene Laloux thrown in for good measure. No joke, it’s one of the most beautiful comics I’ve ever gotten my hands on. I’ll have to pick up the second volume of this soon(by which I mean trawl through Amazon/eBay for it since these editions are long out of print).
